  • $25,000 for property damage per accident

This coverage must be maintained by either the driver’s personal insurance policy, a commercial policy, or a policy maintained by Uber or Lyft on the driver’s behalf.

When the Driver Is On the Way to Pick Up a Passenger or Has a Passenger in the Car

Once the driver accepts a ride or has a passenger onboard, Uber and Lyft must provide at least $1 million in liability coverage. 

This includes:

  • Third-party liability coverage
  • Uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage
  • Contingent comprehensive and collision coverage (if the driver has their own comprehensive coverage)

This $1 million policy is designed to protect not only passengers but also pedestrians, cyclists, and others hurt in the event of a crash caused by the rideshare driver.

When the Driver Is Not Logged Into the App

If the driver isn’t logged into the Uber or Lyft app, then any accident they’re involved in is covered only by their personal auto insurance policy. 

In this phase, Florida’s standard minimum car insurance requirements apply, which include:

  • $10,000 in Personal Injury Protection (PIP)
  • $10,000 in Property Damage Liability (PDL)

However, these minimums don’t apply once the app is on, even if no ride has been accepted yet.
